Packed into our Matatabi Sticks are natural essential oils that drive cats wild.
Gently rub off some bark of the stick to release the scents from the natural oils- then give to your cat to enjoy. They will play, roll, rub, and have a blast!
These chew sticks come from the very the same batches from the plants as our regular sticks but these sections of vines just aren’t quite perfect enough to make it into our regular packaging. In an effort to reduce waste we are offering them for sale in the limited quantities. Some are curved, some are missing sections of bark or be a little more flakey, some have little offshoot growths that we can’t quite cut off smoothly. Others may be nearly perfect but may just be a little too large for our regular size and a little too small for our XL size. You likely won’t even notice a difference once your cat has them for a day.
The sticks will come in very simple bulk style paper bag packaging.
The plant is native to the mountains Japan and China and grows like an ivy on trees and rocks. It is officially named Actinidia Polygama, but is commonly called Silver Vine for the distinctive color of its leaves.
Many cats react to Matatabi (the vine of the Silvervine plant) even if they show little interest to catnip. A 2017 scientific study found 70% of cats had a reaction to catnip, however over 80% of cats had a reaction to silvervine, with many cats enjoying both!
While Matatabi/ Silvervine is slowly becoming more well known here in the United States, and is more popular in East Asia than traditional catnip!
there was one in my bag that was a little extra weird, but upon further inspection i noticed that there were actually a few more than advertised… and my cat doesn’t notice the difference. I also appreciate the paper packaging.

My cats always absolutely love these sticks. My dogs do too, so much that they steal them from the cats lol
My two cats have never tried these that I know of (they were rescues). They play with the sticks a little bit, but they aren’t really chewing on them or anything like that. I probably wouldn’t purchase again based on my cats’ reaction. The “ugly” sticks have thick and thin sticks, but they only have played with the larger sticks. They ignore the smaller ones. If you order these, I would recommend the larger sticks. Shipped quickly and packaged well. I love the little sticker the seller sent.
Hi there, I’m sorry for your experience. The ugly sticks come in a paper bag because they are the ones that are cosmetically imperfect, and therefore the ‘leftovers’ from our packing process, however they are as fresh as the regular version and should not have any off putting smell to them. Unfortunately, all cats have preferences to different types of catnip and catnip alternatives and there is no way to know if they will or will not have a reaction to any of the types of scent enrichment treats. I’m super sad to leave a review for this shop that isn’t 100%, because the seller did a great job, but the product itself just isn’t that good. My cat, who has loved everything silvervine for over a decade, won’t look twice at these sticks, or the powder. I ended up finding an old, dried-out stick from a Amazon order over a year ago, and offered it to him to see if he had just changed his tastes, and he went crazy for it, while the brand-new ones sit untouched. Shipping was fast, packaging was great, but the silvervine itself isn’t quality, unfortunately. No response at all, and I’ve kept trying to offer it over the past week. He loves silvervine, just not this silvervine.
The quality is good, but they didn’t like it. They just sniffed it and walked away Kinda of a waste of money 😭 I mean your cat might like it all 3 of mine didn’t so idk 🤷🏻♀️
if your cat likes to chew on things, buy them these. you will not regret it. they last forever; one of my cats is still working on the same one from a month ago!
Altho it was smaller than I expected, my cat reacted favorably to this item. He usually does not react to catnip at all, so this was encouraging.
